Maserati GranCabrio Re-Dubbed GranTurismo Convertible for U.S.

A small note at the bottom of a press release reveals that the sexy 2010 Maserati GranCabrio will be known instead as the GranTurismo convertible in North America, Australia, and New Zealand. Elsewhere in the world, the GranCabrio moniker remains.
We’re not sure why there’s a different name for our shores, but other manufacturers have done the same thing: for example, the Mazda MX-5 (née Miata) is known simply as the Mazda Roadster in its home market. Given that the 423-hp GranCabrio is based on the hardtop GranTurismo, the stateside name makes more sense, anyway—we had been expecting
GranTurismo Spyder up until the car was revealed. Stay tuned for pricing details as we approach the ‘vert’s launch next spring.
